Subject: Leave That Small Town Flour Behind
Anne Foster comes to New York from Iowa and works in a dead-end job as a typist. But at the end of the day she buys herself a bouquet of flowers because, "Every woman needs to be herself at times!" And she decides to bake a cake. "You feel about Gold Medal Flour the way most women do!"Not having to sift gives Ann "confidence down to your fingertips!" Will making a cake make up for the fact that Ann is working at a job where she is underpaid and has no future?

If Ann is going to continue baking cakes at night, maybe she should get serious about it and go into the cake-baking business. It couldn't be worse than her dreary day job. But it's time for a better flour. She's in New York now, not Iowa. Gold Medal Flour is one of the things she came to New York to get away from. If all she wanted was a "white thumb," she could have stayed in the Midwest. And she should ignore condescending male announcers who tell her how she's supposed to be feeling and that because she works, she's some how "not herself."

Subject: Think "Home Economics Story"
Kinda makes me wonder if she majored in Home Economics at Iowa State..with Kay, Jean, Helen, and Louise........

Subject: Sexist and Boring
Not only is this commercial sexist, But is also boring, cloying and even annoying! Dull as the product it's advertising.

Subject: This is about as "New York City" as an episode of "Friends"
I was born in New York City. Raised in New York City. Evidently, according to the standard media depiction, that makes me and millions of other REAL New Yorkers, invisible anomalies.
To media types, REAL New Yorkers all came from as out of town as possible (in order to "make it there," don'cha know), were all clean-livin', and all about as white as a bar of Ivory Soap.
I can assure you... that New York was as unbelieveable in 1950 or 1960 as it was later. The Melting Pot did not just begin last week or last month, okay? This starry-eyed vision of New York City - that it needs to be populated and tamed by midwestern cowpokes - is horseflop. And besides, this is a boring, draggy commercial except for the one or two "verite"-style shots of contemporary Manhattan.

Subject: Cute little commercial
Cute little commercial that was probably made in the late 1950's. Brings across the product well.

Subject: If people saw you had a white thumb today....
Anne Foster, city slicker, who moved from Waterloo, Iowa, is used to city life, even used to cardobaord coffee. But she does still have her peculiarities. Baking! And there's nothing better then Gold Medal Flour. nice little story telling commercial here. Delicious cake at the end too.
